Back in the day, the E30 M3 dominated race tracks and rally courses around the world, but now-a-days, it’s the BMW E30 325i that’s getting all the action. The BMW E30 325i is raced in the SpecE30 racing series and is a favourite in ChumpCar and the 24 Hours of LeMons, as well as the go-to rear-wheel-drive car for the Team O’Neil Rally School.
Many car enthusiasts claim that the BWM E30 is the far better daily driver. Why? Well, the M20 engine combines incredible sound and smoothness with unfailing reliability. And with the E30’s tough-as-nails chassis wrapped around it, it’s seriously fun and shockingly fast around a track.
Watch as Motor Trend Features Editor Jason Cammisa takes a rally-prepped 325i into the woods and then onto New Hampshire’s Club Motorsports’s road course before it’s even been paved.
And then, Jason asks Randy Pobst to race his 325i Touring station wagon against the brand new, 320-hp 2016 BMW 340i with M-Sport and Track & Handling Packages. It’s 25 year old and has only about half the horsepower, but can Jason’s 325iT keep up with today’s fastest non-M3 3-series around the Streets of Willow?
